Worn out!

// February 28th, 2011 // 1 Comment » // soccer

So the soccer season has begun for the Spring! Awesome! I am way out of shape. I’ll get back into after a couple weeks of training and playing. KG is now playing with the Earmuffs this season. It should be lots of fun playing with him. We had a sweet goal together. Kevin tried to cross the ball once and it got blocked. Got the rebound, took it down the slide line a little and then cross it again. I was already making a run for the first cross so I kept going and did a driving header diagonal forward and to the left side. Near post diving header!! It felt soo great. It was a very well place cross from Kevin.

We needed up losing the game 1-3 but still had a good time.

Next goal I would love to look like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvlEfqOKM5k

6on6 + weekend

// July 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // soccer

This past weekend, I went down to Huntsville for a 6on6 soccer tournament. It was a lot of fun. I played a team called Earmuff’s, which I thought was fitting for me. I knew a couple of the guys and my brother, Kevin, also played. We won the first two games and lost the third one. I had a total of 7 sevens goals! It was fun playing with Kevin and the guys from Huntsville. This was the first time Michelle watched me play in a real soccer game. She has seen me practice but no real games. She said he was getting into the game like she does when she watches Alabama Football, which I was shocked to hear this. I also think I had the most fan support as well. Saturday morning, Michelle’s brother and his family came out to watch us play. Holly, from Michelle’s work, and Kayla, Michelle’s friend, both came out on Saturday. It was a lot of fun.

Sunday, after the soccer game, Michelle and I took a nap then did some yard work. I mowed and she pressure washed the back porch. She also went around her backyard and clipped a couple branches down. By the end of Sunday Michelle and I were both wore out but it was a lot of fun.

Most people know but South Africa is hosting the 2010 World Cup but there is a lot of talk about the country not going to be able to handle the largest sporting event in the world. Check out these two articles. One from Newsweek and one from ESPN SoccerNet.

Newsweek blurb:
South Africans were confronted this week with the reality of hosting one of the greatest shows on earth. The first game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament will get under way in just one year’s time at Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium. It will be a pivotal moment for this country and the continent—THE first ever World Cup held on African soil. But will the country be ready…

ESPN blurb:
Exactly one year from today, the eyes of the soccer world will be on Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, as the host nation kicks off the 2010 World Cup. AP Construction continues on Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg, which will host the 2010 World Cup opener and final. The momentous day will culminate a process for the Rainbow Nation that, according to Local Organizing Committee CEO Danny Jordaan, began in 1994 when the U.S. showed that a nontraditional soccer power could host the World Cup. As South Africa started to plan for a bid, it began to demonstrate…

Dega Baby!

// April 28th, 2009 // No Comments » // sports

So I went down to Talladega this year! Man was it awesome!! I haven’t been back to the track in about 10+ years! It brought back some good memories of Dad, Kevin, Brian and me camping for our first ever Nascar race!! This year it was Kevin, Gene (friend of Kevin), Michelle (friend of mine) and myself. We had to meet Kevin at 6:00am, which wasn’t fun! (I’m guessing Kevin is use to that since he has two kids!)  We got down there around 8:50am and walked around. We saw a couple drivers signing autographs, which was really neat. It is soo cool, 150,000+ people all walking around and hanging out. Lots and lots of trailers (18 wheeler trailers). We got some ear plugs and we were talking to the sales lady and she told Michelle (her first Nascar race) that her ears were bleeding after her first race. This really scared Michelle. Somehow trusting me and going with the game plan, she continued with us. We all grabbed some food and made our way into the track. She loved it!! The race was awesome! A wreck in the first 7 laps knocked out 18 cars. Including Mark Martin and Jeff Gorden! I believe there was a total of 9 cautions. There was a big wreck with 9 laps to go coming off turn 3 into turn 4. Then the HUGE wreck on the last lap going into the checkered flag! Check it out here (video)!! Everyone was fine, expect 8 people got minor injuries. I’m glad the safey fence did an awesome job! All in All, it was a great day! Pictures will be posted soon on KG’s site.
